IBMSIG - The Source - Updated: 1 Sep 1986
File Library SCAN LIST of ALL files uploaded.
This month's LIBSCAN.ARC file contains the 98,652 byte ASCII TEXT file
created by SCANLIST.EXE processing a captured file of the SCAN of the entire
File Library. There are 829 files listed. If you come on-line to download
a program from this list and cannot find it, check for a later version of the
program by using part of the filename or keywords. Chances are it has been
replaced by a newer version.
The pieces of information in this list, in the order in which the are located
on each line, are:
Data Item Contents: Columns
filename.ext 1-12
ID of person who uploaded 14-19
date of upload 21-31
time of upload 33-37
size of file (bytes) 39-44
KEYWORDS 46-117 (or until <CR> ends line)
This file is suitable for input to a database or file management system such
as PC-FILE or PC-DBMS which are available in the File Library or Reflex or
dBASE which are commercial programs. If you don't want to create your own
database system of the files in the SIG, you may use Vern Buerg's LIST.COM
program, also available in the Library, to view, search, and scroll through
the contents of the LIBSCAN.TXT file. Using the F (find) command provided
by LIST is a very handy way of searching through the File Library while NOT
spending connect time on the SIG!
NOTE: The file named LIBPCFIL.ARC contains a database description and
step-by-step procedure to create your own database using PCFILE III, version
4.0 from the File Library along with this LIBSCAN.TXT file.
If you want the full descriptions of the files, there is a series of ARC
format files that contains a captured ASCII TEXT file of each month's uploaded
files. The filenames start with LIBDEC85.ARC for December 1985 and run
through LIBAUG86.ARC for the files uploaded during August 1986. Such a file
will be added each month which includes the files added for each successive
month. Vern's LIST.COM program may be used to search these files as well!
See the SCANLIST.ARC file if you are interested in creating your own database
of the files in the SIG so you can update your database periodically rather
than downloading a new file each month.
If you would like to do the update monthly, there will be a file named
LIBADD.ARC which will contain the same information as is included in the
LIBSCAN.TXT file but only for the files added during the most recently
completed month. It is easily created by extracting the files from the top
of the LIBSCAN.TXT list.
To help keep your database completely up to date, a list of the files deleted
in the most recently completed month is found in the LIBDEL.ARC file each
month. This ARC file contains two lists, one is named LIBDEL.TXT and
contains the name and date of upload of the files which were deleted in the
reverse order of the date on which each was uploaded. The second list is
named LIBDEL.ALF and contains the same list in alphabetical order by
filename. This one may be easier for you to use.
Your comments, suggestions and critique are welcome and may be Posted in a
Bulletin in the SIG or a note in PARTI.
